“Collection by Vermant” is please to be able to offer you this magnificent and extremely rare Volvo Amazon S. This Amazon is a very early example and was ordered from the factory in the S configuration. This would later develop into the 122S specification on subsequent model years. Being an S model it was designated for the more sportier driver and in this specification an additional carburettor was added to give the engine an power boost from 66hp to 85hp. Back when this car was new, this was an immense upgrade. This rare Amazon was ordered new in Sweden and was always cherished by its previous Swedish. With the help of a local contact, we were able to acquire this unique car and brought it over to Belgium.

Of the early Amazons only around a 100 examples where believed to be ordered in the S configuration and unfortunately not many have survived through the years. When the car came into our possession it was in very authentic and excellent overall condition. To bring the car to an even higher standard , it was decided to rebuilt the engine since it started to consume some oil. With the engine out, the front suspension bushes where also replaced. In short, this Amazon not only looks like a Dream but drives equally as good. During the engine rebuild, all auxiliary items for the engine like the alternator, water pump and carburator were also overhauled to make this car ready for many more years to come. In total almost 15.000€ was spent during the “light” renovation of the car.

Looking at the exterior of this Amazon, we can see the beautiful colour combination of red over a creme coloured roof. This was a very popular colour combination back in the day. Being an early example it features Some very rare options. In the front we can see the distinctive smaller grille inserts. On the bumper itself, we can see the overriders that are also mounted on the rear bumper. Going over the side, we can see the very rare Amazon S badge. This was only available on the 100 Cars build and indicates the rarity of the car for the through Volvo connaisseur. On the rear door we can also see an early model feature in the form of the quarter Windows. These can be opened together with the large window. On later models, this feature was removed. It is however a handy feature to have a moderate flow of air on the rear Seat without the buffeting noise of the larger window when opened. On the rear, we can see the early model single colour brake lights with a more edged Chrome surrounding. On the boot lid we can see the very rare “moustache” double licence light housings. These give the car a very distinguished look in combination with all the other Chrome details in the rear. On later models, the Licence plate housing was combined into a single unit that also incorporated the boot lid unlocking. On this model this is situated just below the boot lid.

When going over to the interieur, we can see a beautiful cloth and skai leather interior. The light grey cloth material works very well with the light grey/beige skai material. The materials are both as per original and give the interior a very classic and distinguished look and feel. The placement of the materials was also chosen beautifully by the Volvo design team back in the day. Not only the outside of this Amazon is beautiful but the inside has been very well cared for throughout the years retaining all the original details. The interior features some specific features that could only be found on the early examples. In the front we can see that the dashboard padding overflows into the door panels. Both the headliner and carpet are finished in a light grey material. This was later changed to a different type of material. One of the distinctive features on Volvo’s from this age are the quarter light windows on the front door that can be opened. On this example they are also featured on the rear doors, which was only in production for a limited time.

In short, this Amazon S presents a unique opportunity to acquire a beautiful and very rare Amazon of Which only an handful are stil in existence.
