‘Collection by Vermant’ is pleased to be able to offer you this magnificent and very rare Volvo 264 TE. The 264 TE was build in collaboration with the Italian design house Bertone who did the styling of the car. Where Volvo normally used the services of Nilsson in Sweden for the construction of their bespoke projects, the 264 was special since it was also converted by Bertone. They were tasked by Volvo to lengthen the car by a massive 70cm but it had to retain the well balanced proportions of the car. The succeeded by dividing the car into three pieces and equally spacing them. To power the car, the top of the line engine from Volvo was used, being the V6 that was mated to an automatic gearbox. The TE badge stands for Top Executive and this naming gathered the attention of the new East German government after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Since they couldn’t drive West German cars due to the political tensions. The DDR subsequently ordered an estimated 125 examples of the TE in almost identical configurations. All of them were finished in a dark blue exterior colour. On the inside the choice was made for a Grey velvet interior with Grey carpets. On the DDR examples the rear seats were provided by curtains to block them off from outside situations or view from the public. The car also received some technical alterations with a battery moved to the luggage area of the car and a battery cut off switch next to the drivers seat. The TE’s were not only lengthened but also received every single comfort feature available back in the day.

After their use by the DDR and the fall of the regime in 1989, the cars were frantically picked up by enthousiasts and collectors. These often had difficulty registeren the cars since little to no documents were available for the cars after the fall of the regime. Today, this makes these cars even more collectible and rare to come across. This car was purchased in 2012 from a Belgian dealer by the last owner. He has since cared for the car and spared no expense to keep it in good mechanical condition. He performed the following repairs to the car upon taking delivery of the car for a total amount of 4.320€. Quite the investment for a car he just bought.
